toe up no mo

I have this great looking pair of shoes that absolutely TORE-UP my feet the first time I wore them. (I also discovered the urban language dictionary today (see my del.icio.us gadget on the left), so henceforth writing will be peppered with terms like “tore-up”.)
I shyed away from the shoes for a few weeks, but didn’t return them because they looked so DAMN GOOD. Did I mention they are also 3 inch high narrow cork platform heels and I fall off the shoes a few times a day? No? Good. I have rubber ankes that bounce right back after a twist.
Anyway, I was vaguely aware of a product called Blister Block by Band- Aid – it’s a stick that you rub on your feet to reduce friction and stop blisters. Yesterday I went to Wal Mart to buy this stuff specifically so I could get out my fab shoes again and nearly fell over at the price – $5.97 for a little stick not much bigger than a lip balm. But reasoning the amount of money wasted if I could never wear the shoes again, I bought it. I have skewed priorities when it comes to cheapness. ($20 for a mascara is fine, $4 for a latte fine, but a $20 copay for doctor’s visits seems like money down the drain.) I’m happy to report that I wore my shoes today with minimum blisters.

Rules for Blister Block use:
1. Don’t leave it in the car on a 100 degree day in July. It will melt and then when you try to open it the next day you will be confused as to why you can’t get the top off.
2. Re-apply, re-apply, re-apply since this is basically the equivalent of rubbing Crisco on your feet it wears off after walking to the bathroom a few times.
After explaining this product to some co-workers the idea was pitched that potentially a tube of lip balm would accomplish the same thing for less money.
So tomorrow’s R&D will involve wearing the same shoes, this time with Chap-Stick as a barrier.
