it’s what day again?

Today is our 6th wedding anniversary, and both sets of parents forgot. Yesterday, talking to my mom she inquired about our plans for the weekend.
“Well tonight we’re going out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary.”
“Oh my goodness! I completely forgot! I didn’t send a card or anything!” Followed by laughter.
I relayed this story to Brett.
“That’s funny – my mom said the exact same thing.”
My theory on this is that now that there’s a grand-baby in the house, now that the union – that special joy that is marriage – has produced an heir, formerly important events like my birthday (also known as my own personal national holiday, which allows me to take the day off work and generally expect everyone to wait on me hand and foot, plus shower me with gifts) and our anniversary are no longer at the forefront of yearly celebrations.
Hell, last year, considering I was less than 3 weeks out from giving birth, I didn’t even care very much about my own birthday. Although since then, I’ve gifted myself more than generously in the midst of my post-baby-not-gonna-get-frumpy frenzy.
Anyway, an great amazing dinner was had at a new place that doesn’t fit the types of restaurants that usually operate around here. Fun people-watching, great food. And when I couldn’t decide what to have, our waiter offered to choose for me – a service rarely offered when your primary dining out experience tends to be Don Pablos or Red Robin. We’ve since recommended this place to no less than four other couples, and we’ll be coming up with a reason/excuse to celebrate again soon. Even if no one remembers but us.
