• Atman

The Atman or Atma (IAST: Ātmā, sanskrit: आत्म‍ ) is a philosophical term used within Hinduism and Vedanta to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence.

    all about the baby

    By heather | July 25, 2007

So I think I’ve been remarkably restrained in writing strictly baby-info entries so this one is going to go there. First things first.

9-month check up baby stats: 29 inches, 19.8 lbs. 75% and 50% percentiles, respectively.

I can’t explain the percentiles any further because I have no idea what that actually means. I guess he’s tall. When he’s standing….WHICH HE DID FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY BY HIMSELF.

For a while now, his favorite place to pull up has been the bathtub which has given me new insight into those parents who can’t control their kids. Okay, I get it now - you don’t want to crush his little spirit. I even found myself being an “explainer” parent.

The type I always scoffed at as in “If you stand in the tub you can slip and fall and that would make Mommy SAD” instead of just saying “Sit the hell down child!” I will still judge you though because your baby is likely not as cute as mine and therefore easier to discipline.

Giving baths lately has been more akin to sitting in the front row at Sea World - stand up/sit down/splash and wave fists angrily/repeat/. Bathing no longer involves lovingly washing every little chubby baby part, now it’s hair (for the baby smell) behind the ears and in the crack and a lot of times that’s it. I figure the water is soapy right? Just not the water he’s sucking out of the washcloth - that water is crystal.

And did I mention how much we love Miss Sue? She called me at work as excited as I would have been because, ahem, I was not actually present for the standing up all by hisself, I was toiling away in my beige cube earning his college tuition.
