• Atman

The Atman or Atma (IAST: Ātmā, sanskrit: आत्म‍ ) is a philosophical term used within Hinduism and Vedanta to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence.

    the natural order of things

    By heather | August 16, 2007

If you’ve ever been to my parent’s house, you know that it’s immaculate. Not don’t-sit-on-anything immaculate, but everything has a place. In my house I strive for everything to have a place (preferably out of sight), whereas Brett is more fond of tidy piles.

As long as things are lined up in a row, then happy days are here again for him. Each of us is irritating to the other because Brett has a tendency to take things I’ve sorted and re-pile them, while I have a tendency to take the tidy piles and stuff them in drawers and lose things like bills and invitations and gift cards.

When we visited my parent’s house last month, I watched my mom literally ball up and stuff things into drawers, which was really a revelation to me because now I know where I get it from.

Surface=pristine, beneath the surface=turmoil. But it’s ok, because it’s not a failure of me as a mom – it’s inherited!

Alex’s new favorite thing to do is stand next to my dresser and empty it, piece by piece, of every article of clothing in there. Because this keeps him occupied while I finish getting ready in the morning, (or going through outfit changes or shoving things in drawers), I let him do it. Plus it’s so DANG cute.

For a while I was doing really good with re-folding and keeping a neat drawer. But really why push it? This is nature, this is how it’s supposed to be.
