• Atman

The Atman or Atma (IAST: Ātmā, sanskrit: आत्म‍ ) is a philosophical term used within Hinduism and Vedanta to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence.

    this entry is goulash

    By heather | August 23, 2007

Hee hee…this site gets funnier the longer I am a parent. Which of these shirts will get us more bonus points when we are embarking on our little airborne adventure?

I spent HOURS yesterday reading other people’s blogs. Some were much funnier than mine. Most well written, some maybe not stellar writing but fascinating subject matter. Many I will visit again. However, I was astonished at the amount of time I can waste with a few blogs and a feed reader. Probably more time than I can waste chatting.

Baby had his first bloody mishap yesterday. Nosedive to the kitchen floor, sharp teeth in lip – OMG. It’s horrifying to see blood on your child’s face. Again, why didn’t anyone tell me how bad it feels? Did you try and I just wasn’t hearin’ it?

I’m thinking of trying vegetarianism again. (If my mom is reading this, she is sighing right now and hoping that I don’t get on this kick until after our visit.) I did it before in high school, and again in college but that basically consisted of not eating the main dish and just the sides. The sides were almost always potato based (starchy! bad!) or pasta (not even a real vegetable!). I worked at Burger King at the time, and made myself Whoppers without the patty in the middle.

Lately, it seems everyone I come across is veg. I’ve gotten some better tips for what to eat other than french fries and a hamburger bun with ketchup counting as the “veg” in vegetarian. Touching meat has always disgusted me. Lately even the smell of meat cooking makes me queasy. I hesitate to feed it to Alex because it doesn’t seem as clean somehow. And, (even as I type this I’m rolling eyes at myself) it seems hypocritical.

With all the hype about a certain football player and his “illegal operations” here in “Bad Newz, 2up2down” (sorry I lost myself in the urban language dictionary for a second) it’s interesting to me that the people who are the most up in arms about it and giving their dogs the Michael Vick chew toys are sitting down to a healthy steak for dinner tonight. And are waiting with guns loaded for the start of huntin’ season next month.

So this weekend, while Brett is doing fantasy football draft, I think Alex and I will become vegetarians. We’ll see how it goes.

(If you are wondering what goulash is here is what Wiki says. I say it’s a stew of slop – random things that kind of go together but somehow oddly meld.)
