• Atman

The Atman or Atma (IAST: Ātmā, sanskrit: आत्म‍ ) is a philosophical term used within Hinduism and Vedanta to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence.

    a list

    By heather | October 10, 2007

In honor of my new job, I present… a list.

Things I Love About My New Job

    1. My own cubicle! No it’s not an office, but it could be with a rod and shower curtain nailed across the entry. And! I have a visitor’s chair! And I don’t share it with anyone!
    2. My chair! I am still convinced that the horrible chair I used to park my butt in is the root cause of the neck and shoulder stress that gives me almost daily headaches.
    3. My phone has CALLER ID! Excellent! I’ve lost count of how many times I wished for caller ID on my work phones.
    4. The walk to the bathroom and kitchen is approximately 50 steps from my desk, instead of the half mile that it used to feel like when I was blogging and didn’t want to get up and go and then really, REALLY had to pee.
    5. Being treated like an adult instead of constant “inprocessing” lectures on how to mark every minute and not count your bathroom breaks in your timecard, and how to behave “ethically”, like don’t steal pencils or look at porn.
    6. People in the company telling me that family comes first – this was repeated to me over and over on Monday by a number of people I had just met, in response to this.
    7. An entire wall full of cabinets of notebooks, and sticky notes, and pens and highlighters and everything you could think of – just there for me to look at and smell! Don’t ask, I have a weird obsession with office supplies. I am not allowed to go to Office Depot alone, because I will shop like a 7 year old starting her first day of school and come home with everything from a Trapper Keeper to a fax machine. And in case you’re remembering #6, I don’t like them anymore once they’ve been used. I like them all shiny and in the wrapper, fresh and full of possibility so there is no need to tarnish the office supplies by bringing them home.

So there we have it, hopefully it will stay just as pleasing from here on out. And if things should go south from here, I can always close my shower curtain, crawl under my desk, and take a nap.
