• Atman

The Atman or Atma (IAST: Ātmā, sanskrit: आत्म‍ ) is a philosophical term used within Hinduism and Vedanta to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence.

this is why i’m not a hero

    By heather | November 20, 2007

When I was little, our Christmas gift one year was a Nintendo. The original Nintendo, not this fancy Wii or 64 or whatever. (I probably just totally embarrassed myself there among fellow geeks because I did not know that the coolest gaming system is like, duh, the Nintendo 10,000.) We only had one or two games, and the only one I ever played was Super Mario Brothers. We used to huddle in the unfinished, unheated basement next to the cat box for hours until I finally rescued the princess.

When I went to college, my friend Erin (of Price is Right and birthday fame) had a Nintendo in her dorm room and the only game we ever played was Dr. Mario. The Dr. was like Tetris but little multi-colored pills fell down and you had to match them up to make them disappear. I nearly failed that semester of college.

A few months ago, I went to a party and played Guitar Hero for the first time and discovered there are other addictions besides blogs. This is what I look like at the thought of an evening with Guitar Hero.

When I play, even though I suck at it, I’m like a lizard in that I do. not. blink.

Just like I nearly failed that semester of college, if I actually owned Guitar Hero I would most likely fail at life. Food wouldn’t get made, diapers would not get changed, I would probably stop going to work, laundry would pile up (eh, too late for that one). And, gasp! The blog would go away because I would have nothing to write about except how I did “Cult of Personality” on Medium! Rock ON!

Funny enough, I discovered last night while paying bills, that even though I don’t own a Nintendo or Guitar Hero, I own a GUITAR. Brett, trying hard to be sneaky and counting on the fact that I was only half listening when he was telling me about going with his friend Adam to go and buy the game and they went everywhere and no one had it (ohandbtwIboughtoneoftheguitars) but we finally found it at Wal mart at 10:30 on a Thursday night and we played it and it was fun! Ha ha!

I called him to ask what, praytell we purchased at Best Buy last week and he fessed up without any torture whatsoever. (He was scared by what I did to the pie.) Considering he was out watching Monday night football with the boys when this conversation took place, I’m thinking he got enough torture after he hung up the phone. Har.

We had a Steelers watching/Guitar Hero party on Sunday. It was made a party by the addition of Adam bringing his Xbox and the game. Any more people would have detracted from my playing time, although I was remarkably restrained in how many songs I did. Of course that was before I knew that we owned one of the guitars. I briefly entertained the idea of buying an xbox for the sole purpose of owning Guitar Hero but I think we all know why that would be a bad idea for everyone involved.

Heather, coming down from upstairs, hearing “Cliffs of Dover” shouting “Who’s watching the baby?” Answer: No one.

Adam, getting more than he bargained for when he agreed to come to our house. And yes, Alex is wearing camo pants with a jersey. Because we are bad-asses. And also I forgot to wash some clothes for him. See, bad idea!
