• Atman

The Atman or Atma (IAST: Ātmā, sanskrit: आत्म‍ ) is a philosophical term used within Hinduism and Vedanta to identify the soul. It is one's true self (hence generally translated into English as 'Self') beyond identification with the phenomenal reality of worldly existence.

    a study of a holiday

    By heather | November 27, 2007

I have been lazy. I had plenty of opportunities to update the old blog over the last (eek) 6 days. (Are you still here? I don’t blame you if you’ve left me for lack of new stuff.) I’ll finish out NaBlo Post More or whatever it is by posting every day this week. I can’t hang for the whole 30 days, but surely I can hang for 4.

Here’s a rundown of Thanksgiving fun. With pictures!

Wednesday - no daycare so I worked in the morning and Brett in the afternoon. Wednesday afternoon was a frenzy of packing and cooking and laundry-ing. Such a frenzy that when Brett actually did get home from work, I kicked him right back out to keep him out of my way. Because you know, they don’t sell baby food in the South and even though I weave among piles of dirty clothes all the time, when I am not home everything must be CLEAN and FOLDED and PUT AWAY.

Thanksgiving - Driving. Eating. Napping. Coming down off the packing/going out of town high which was a relief to everyone because I am crazy bitch when doing trip planning. This was my first Thanksgiving eating in a restaurant.

(Nice vintage restaurant + 13 month old with 6 hours of pent up car energy + lots of couples/quiet elegant looking groups) = stressful.

It was good to be with family and no cleanup! Only drawback is there are no turkey leftovers, so have hatched secret plan to cook full Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings when we get home.

Friday - Brisk walk outside. More napping.

Visit to the Harley store for some cool baby digs. More eating until my pajama pants were the only things that didn’t leave red marks on my gut. I should note that the aforementioned pj pants were purchased for my stay in the hospital AFTER GIVING BIRTH. Blah.

Saturday - Driving and…um… I don’t remember. I do remember making a list in my head of deep thoughts when traveling with a toddler that included “You just can’t worry about Cheerios ground into the car seat”, “I wonder how many dirty diapers have been changed on this nasty gas station changer?”, quickly followed by “Goddammit where are the SaniHands wipes?”

Sunday - Abandon plan to cook entire Thanksgiving dinner including 14lb turkey. Vow to stop eating as if the world is going to run out of food this week. Stayed up too late reading, only to be awakened by cranky baby 3 times during the night.

Monday - Drop Alex at daycare and discover that I forgot to bring his milk. Wonder when, if ever, I will get it together on a consistent basis. While purchasing milk at the nearest grocery store, observe that the couple in front of me in the express lane are wearing slippers and purchasing 30 of those nasty little Hug jugs and which not only puts them WAY over the express lane limit, but also squarely in the category of grocery store sleuth, because I didn’t even know they still sold that shit. Finally, show up at work with red red eyes, limp hair, and half a brain.

(Update: I was afraid no one would remember hugs so there’s a link and here is an explanation: Hugs are these gross little drinks that are in a barrel shaped bottle and they have the nastiest ever throat stripping juice-like stuff inside. The people that drink them, I think, use it to wash down their Spam (the meat, not the mail) while smoking Marlboro Reds.)
