the first in the long downward spiral of holidays
By heather | October 31, 2008
In a fit of being totally lame, as I generally am during the week, I have “misplaced” Alex’s Halloween costume. By misplaced I mean threw it in the general direction of the laundry room last Friday after he got ketchup on it and then never gave it a second thought and now it’s missing and it’s Halloween RIGHT NOW.
Therefore this year there will be TWO Halloween costumes because on my lunch hour I ran out to see what kind of cheapy-cheap reduced clearance price Halloween costumes were left and hit the jackpot at TJMaxx. So not only do I have today’s costume, I also have next year’s which I don’t mind telling you is a BEAVER. With buck teeth, claw feet, and a hilarious tail.
I’ll post pictures tomorrow because I’m toying with the idea of doing NaBloPoMo and it would soooo lame to miss the first day.
In the meantime, behold our pumpkins, carved last night because I like to do things just under the wire in everything holiday related, but also because they would melt into a pile of goo if we did them too early. Except this year they probably wouldn’t have, because it’s been plenty chilly instead of the usual fruit fly inducing 70 degree range.

I have to admit that pumpkin carving last year was much more fun, because this year when Alex wasn’t allowed to hold the carving knife or draw on his face with the Sharpie he lost interest rather quickly and wandered into the (carpeted) playroom wearing pumpkin-gut covered socks. And like a pumpkin carved too early, he promptly melted into a pile of goo after I hauled him back to the kitchen for more mandatory fun.
He did enjoy scooping out guts…

and tossing them around the kitchen.

This picture is posted purely so you can make fun of my high Palin-esque hair, and also wonder why I look like a giant cardboard cutout.

Carving the pumpkin last night is considered under the wire? We just did ours about half an hour ago…
And Phoebe has 2 costumes, too, since we ordered the promised bunny so late we were sure it wouldn’t arrive in time for our party. So we picked up a discounted cat, too.
I’m also doing NaBloPoMo. Parallel lives, I tell ya.
Except my hair is not tall at all.
