nye – a live blogging event
By heather | January 2, 2010
I’ve finally reached the age where I don’t know a single person who actually went out and “partied” for New Year’s Eve. This makes me happy, as New Year’s has always been my most hated holiday, both for what it’s supposed to be and for what it never is.
This year, I had a few things on my party agenda.
5:00pm Remember that I bought sparkly juice for the kids and pour Alex a cup.
5:05pm Alex requests more wine.
6:00pm Alex again requests more wine.
7:30pm Kids go to bed.
8:00pm Anxiously wonder if my fun-tastic new OXO pop-top containers need to dry more before I can start filling them with dry goods.
8:03pm Fill OXO pop-top containers with flour and sugar.
8:25pm Work on moving my iTunes library and photos to the new Mac.
9:40pm Finally figure out why iTunes is not seeing the music.
9:45pm Give up on trying to figure out why my playlists are not there.
10:00pm Organize photos going back to 2004.
10:18pm Marvel at all the songs we’ve never heard on the Best of 2009 countdown.
10:50pm Remind Brett that I asked him 8 hours ago to peel kiwi for next day’s brunch.
11:15pm Pick fight with Brett over still hairy kiwi.
11:35pm Stomp off to bed.
11:40pm Decide to turn over new leaf by not holding grudge, and come back downstairs for celebration.
11:41pm Lay on couch under blanket.
11:50pm Decide getting up to open champagne is too much trouble.
11:59pm Feel sad when Dick Clark goofs up countdown.
Midnight…Weehoo. Congratulate self on making it to midnight for the first time in 5 years.
12:10am Decide that the one thing I cannot tolerate in 2010 is any more of this Seacrest/BlackEyedPea/RealityShowGirl foolishness and head to bed in anticipation of early bird Alex not caring that Mommy made it to midnight.
Happy New Year!
P.S. I still don’t know why my playlists didn’t move. Suggestions welcome…

Take your computers to the Apple store and have them transfer all the data. Better yet, bring your computers up here to my Apple store and we can hang out and not party while they transfer everything.
We went to some friends’ house for New Years. The husband was switching back and forth between Dick Clark and that stupid idiot (did I just say that?) jumping his car onto a barge. And we. missed. the. countdown.
I didn’t even know Dick Clark messed up. Du found a random replay on Twitter when we got home and so we faux counted down to the New Year.
So, yeah, I can’t wait until we can leave the kids and actually go to a real party. I like the idea of being able to be up and mobile and functioning after midnight. Makes me feel like I’m still young.

This is my kind of NYE live blogging event! Moving data and storing dry goods. Woo hoo!
We watched a movie, which we don’t do much. (Usually we both just hunker down with our laptops after the kids are asleep. But it was our anniversary…) We didn’t even notice when midnight happened. (We finished the movie around 1.)
