Tonight after her bath, I made the mistake of holding Emily Kate right up next to my face and looking in the mirror.

Aaacckk! (you know, Cathy-style) is the first thing that came to mind.

Because I’m in the stage of pregnancy right now that I almost forgot about – the pretty-pretty-pregnancy-horomones-are-leaving-you stage. The exact same thing happened the first time around, except that time I neatly ended the post-partum uglies by promptly and unexpectedly getting pregnant again.

Exactly three months to the day of giving birth, I started losing CLUMPS of hair. Not just a few strands here and there, so much hair fell out that after a shower it looked like a gerbil was curled up on the drain. Three months after that, my hair stopped falling out but then my nails started breaking and my skin started flaking. Now here I am 8 months later, and I have the double whammy of inch long strands of hair sticking out all around my hair line plus excess grease and zits.

Add to that picture the end of the day mascara-flakies, the newly formed frown wrinkles between my eyebrows and then hold it up next to this air-brushed, clean-smelling, chubby perfection:

Oy. Or GAAAH, if you prefer.

Although, I’m generally pretty happy with my appearance, when I start feeling you know, BLAAAHH, I tend to do one thing: SPEND MONEY TO FIX IT. Usually I throw it at getting my hair cut and highlighted, sometimes on new makeup, or skin treatments but this time there’s a little something else that I’ve been thinking about.

Dare I say it?

Botox.

I’m a big fan of “offense is the best defense” school of beauty – get it before it gets you. But in this case, am I still aging gracefully if I pay for poison to be injected right between my eyes? Or am I one step away from becoming Joan Rivers?

Perhaps I should try going shorter and blonder first. Or new mascara.

Would you do it? HAVE YOU?

I think I’ve been watching too much of the Imagination Movers.

I say this because at work today, I couldn’t figure out how to get logged into one of our networks. Another tech guy came over to help me and we fixed it, then immediately put on our blue jumpsuits and jumped around singing:

We had a problem but we figured it out
That’s what the Movers are all about
We’re havin fun let’s jump and shout-
COME ON!

At least in my head I did that. Over and over again throughout the rest of the day.

When we get home in the evenings, the first thing Alex does is shout, “Mooboo!” which is short for “Mommy I would like to watch Imagination Movers please!” and then he hands me the remote and sits still as a statue for most of the episode. At least until the end when he gets up and dances to this:

Catchy little tune those Movers have…now you can sing it too. Over and over, until your only problem is how to get it out of your head.

So here we are, not quite halfway through NaBloPoMo and I’m not out of topics. (Motiviation maybe, but I’ve got topics.)

Today’s post was going to be about swearing at work but I think I need to do this one instead. We’ll save that scintillating topic for next week.

From Miss, who got it from Red Lotus Mama - let’s spread some happy today:

Ten Things That Make Me Happy

Alex’s bedtime, when I turn off the light and he curls his body into mine and snuggles and rocks with me. This is possibly the only time other than when he’s sleeping that he isn’t in constant motion.

Nuk noises, aka Maggie Simpson, with a baby smile around the nuk.

Getting home and into comfy clothes before 5pm.

Mid afternoon naps. For me. Although kid naps also make me happy.

Cupcakes.

Savasana.

The ten minutes after a chiropractor visit because it takes about that long for my ridiculously loose joints to slide right back out to where they’re not supposed to be.

Evening conversations with my husband. Even if it’s about work or the washing machine, it’s the quiet connection that matters.

Kicking ass in a meeting or presentation, especially while wearing pointy ass kicking shoes.

Teaching a really great yoga class where the sequencing works and the energy in the room becomes a tangible, connecting force.

Gorgeous fall days with sun highlighting the leaves, enough of a chill that we can wear sweaters, and time to enjoy it.

What are yours?
