VERY WELL WRITTEN. NOT HAVING THE ATTACHMENT TO AN INSTITUTION SUCH AS PENN STATE, IT IS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO GRASP THE AMBIGUITY IN THIS SITUATION. I JUST READ THE GRAND JURY’S REPORT AND I FEEL SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH HUMAN DECENCY AND THE CONCERN WAS NOT WHERE IT NEEDED TO BE. THE ABUSE WAS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE, YES, EVERYONE MAKES POOR DECESIONS (ME ESPECIALLY)BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNOT WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THE REASONING, THIS HAS RUINED SO MANY LIVES, AND I DO FEEL COMPASSION FOR ALL INVOLVED (EXCEPT FOR SANDUSKY) HOW DID EVERYONE SLEEP FOR THE PAST DECADE KNOWING THERE WAS ONE CHILD ABUSED LET ALONE 9? HAVE WE BECOME A SOCIETY THAT MAKES IDOLS OF PEOPLE THAT BASICALLY TELL OTHER PEOPLE HOW TO THROW A BALL? I THINK WE
HAVE. IT HINTS OF CRONISM, POLITICS, SPORTS IT CAN TURN BAD, I FEEL EMPATHY FOR THE PEOPLE THAT WENT TO PENN STATE (WONDERFUL SCHOOL) AND THEIR PROFOUND DISAPPOINTMENT AND HOPE THIS WILL NOT BE THE SCHOOL’S DEFINING MOMENT IN THE FUTURE.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I find myself, completely irrationally, hoping for birth control failure.

This baby business went way too fast. My own little tiny baby will be 3 in less than 3 weeks.

At the same time, I am looking forward to the whole range of activities that one can do with older kids, which aren’t really possible when one is hampered by a little baby.

I get your point about styling. I learn that if you like to wear the clothes you choose then go for it. I really like the tips you have shared with us. The more skin, the less power.

I don’t have anything to add at this point, but I like the list. I think I need to focus more on #4 at this point in my life. #1 also seems very sound, and in retrospect, I wish I would have thought to do this on a couple of occasions.

I find #3 very interesting, though, in terms of issues of power and gender. In the business world, I can really see how that would be true. I have noticed that academia seems to be breaking away from this trend. (But then again, the “style guidelines” for academia are already quite different from those of the business world.) Having just attended a summer-time academic conference, with a largely international audience, I was actually fairly surprised by the amount of skin many attendees were comfortable displaying, even while presenting. This applied to men as well as women, as there were men in short sleeves, shorts and even some sandals (though maybe not actually presenting in shorts and sandals). My previous results on the prevalence of black pants at conferences were completely blown out of the water.

Yay! I’m glad to see you pop up in my reader again. And I know what you mean. Even though I have posted here and there in recent months, I haven’t been as regular as I used to me. And like you, I feel like the record is too incomplete.
